Why Rohit Sharma retires from T20Is after 2024 World Cup? Indian captain reveals
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has revealed the reason for his retirement from T20Is. Currently, Rohit Sharma is leading Team India in ODIs and Tests.
New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit had said that he will no longer play T20 Internationals. Rohit took this decision after making India the world champion. At the time, Rohit seemed to have said goodbye to one format as he got older, but the right-handed batsman has now revealed the real reason behind that decision.
Under Rohit's leadership, India won the T20 World Cup 2024 jointly organized by West Indies and USA. Team India could lift this trophy after 17 years. After this, Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 Internationals.
This is the reason for retirement:
Rohit recently gave an interview in which he talked about his decision to retire. When the anchor asked him if he had announced his retirement from T20 internationals due to advancing age? Rohit said, “No, no. I retired from T20 internationals because my time was up. I enjoy playing this format. I played for 17 years. When you win the World Cup, it's the right time to move on. You may see a few different things. There are many good players who can do well for India.”
“So, it wasn't because I felt anything. I thought it was the right time. I can still play all three formats easily. That's why I say fitness is in your mind and how you train. I believe that everything is in the mind, I am very confident because I know that I can control my mind. It's not easy, but I know most of the time, I can do it. If you tell your body you are young, you can do it.” he added.
Eyes on ICC Champions Trophy 2025:
Rohit is India's captain in ODIs and Tests. His eyes will be on next year's Champions Trophy. Team India has not won the Champions Trophy since 2013. In 2017, India reached the final but lost to Pakistan. This time Rohit will try to win the title. Rohit wants to lead India to win the ICC Test Championship where India have faced defeat in the finals twice.
Rohit Sharma is currently playing in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Rohit's upcoming captaincy assignments include the three-Test series against New Zealand and the blockbuster Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
