Concluding his two-day visit to Poland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday embarked on a historic visit to Ukraine and held wide-ranging discussions with the Polish leadership.
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Earlier, on August 22, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country and said, “The whole world is watching the Prime Minister's upcoming visit. Prime Minister Modi has the potential to be a contributor, a key architect, not just a messenger, to bring a stable, fair and lasting peace to Ukraine.”
The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi issued a statement on August 19 that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine on an official visit on August 23, the National Flag Day of Ukraine.
