Trump's running mate JD Vance says Biden should drop out of the presidential race
Vance's statement came as many Democrats called for Biden to step aside as the party's nominee. Joe Biden is facing growing calls to step aside as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election.
Newly elected Republican Vice President JD Vance expressed concern about President Biden's mental acuity in a recent post. Turning to X, Vance pointed out that if Democrats doubt Biden's ability to run for re-election, it raises questions about his fitness to serve as president until next January. “If Joe Biden doesn't have the cognitive function to run for re-election, he certainly doesn't have the cognitive function to remain commander-in-chief,” Vance posted. “How can any Dem push him out of the presidential race, argue in good faith that he should stay as POTUS?”

Call on Biden to step aside
Vance's statement came as many Democrats called for Biden to step aside as the party's nominee. Joe Biden is facing growing calls to step aside as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election. The scrutiny intensified after her disappointing performance in a recent televised debate with Trump. During the debate, Biden appeared gruff and struggled to articulate a clear distinction from his opponent, raising concerns about his ability to lead effectively.
Calls for Biden to withdraw from the race have grown louder, with Senator Martin Heinrich and several House Democrats joining the chorus. Pressure on Biden increased after nearly 20 Democratic lawmakers urged him to drop out of the presidential race.
Notably, leading Democrats such as Jim Hines and Adam Smith, who hold key positions on the National Security Committee, have also expressed doubts about Biden's candidacy. Their concerns are compounded by voices calling for a leadership change within the party.
Biden says he's excited to get back on the campaign trail
Despite calls from Democrats, Biden said Friday he expects to be back on the campaign trail next week. He slammed former US President Donald Trump's speech at the Republican National Convention, calling it a 'bleak vision for the future'. In a statement, Biden said, “Donald Trump's dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box.”
He added, “I look forward to returning to the campaign trail next week to continue to expose the threat of Donald Trump's Project 2025 agenda to my own record and to the vision I have for America: one where we protect ourselves.” Defend democracy, our rights and freedoms, and create opportunities for everyone.” Biden has been isolated at his Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, home after testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday while campaigning in Las Vegas.
