According to media reports, after the death of their mother in 1996, Sridevi and her sister's relationship was very strained. Sridevi's mother was admitted to the hospital where she underwent an operation. During the operation, her mother lost all her memory and sadly died. After the death of her mother, Sridevi filed a complaint and got a compensation of around Rs 7.2 crore from the hospital. It was said that Sridevi kept all the money and this led to an ugly fight between the two sisters. Srithala then filed a case against Sridevi to recover her money. She won the case and got Rs 2 crore as her share.

Since then the two sisters have never spoken to each other. Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor also tried to patch things up between them, but unfortunately it didn't happen. It was also said that Srilata was not present at the time of Sridevi's unfortunate death.
