New Delhi: Delhi University has increased the pass criteria for promotion from 50 percent to 63 percent for next year. Undergraduate students studying in all DU colleges will now have to score 63 percent marks in aggregate in the first and second semesters to qualify for promotion.

It is important to note that students representing Delhi University in sports, extra-curricular activities, National Cadet Corps (NCC), and National Service Scheme (NSS) may be exempted from the criteria subject to competent approval of their college. authority

The move has been taken to address the loopholes in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022 at Delhi University, a university official said.

“As per the previous pass and promotion rules, a student was eligible for promotion from the first year to the second year of the course if he/she passed 50 percent of the examinations taken in the first and second semesters combined. Students will have to clear seven papers and secure a total of 22 credits for promotion,” the official said.

“However, since all papers do not carry equal credit under NEP-UGCF 2022, it is possible that a student can get promoted next year after passing only three papers of both semesters and only 36 percent. score,” a member of the committee that prepared the guidelines for the promotion criteria told PTI.

To review the shortfall, a 12-member committee comprising principals of several DU colleges, including Miranda House, Kirori Mal College and Lady Sri Ram, held a meeting with the Dean, Controller of Academics and Examinations (CoE) on May 7. And gave his recommendations, said the officer.

Inconsistency in the implementation of NEP-UGCF 2022 is “harming the academic growth of students and defeating the objectives set in NEP 2020,” the committee observed, agreeing that passing and promotion rules need to be reviewed.

It is suggested that students should complete 50 percent of the academic requirement to be eligible for promotion for the subsequent year. The committee member also said that the student should obtain at least 28 credits from 22 credits to go to the next year.
