Dhaka: In a major development this week, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus assumed the role of Chief Counsel, the equivalent of the prime minister in Bangladesh, and Bangladeshi protesters today on Saturday forced Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice Obedul Hasan to resign. . Amid the chaos, Muhammad Yunus on Friday unveiled the accounts of his newly appointed 16-member advisory committee. Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice had to resign

Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice Obedul Hasan has decided to step down from his post in the face of protests by students who have given him an ultimatum to resign by 1pm on Saturday, according to media reports. The 65-year-old judge will resign after consulting with President Mohammad Shahabuddin in the evening, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.

The Chief Justice announced his decision at around 1 pm after protesters of the anti-discrimination student movement gathered in the court premises. Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, issued an ultimatum demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice and the judges of the Appellate Division.

Abdullah said the protesters threatened to besiege their residences, the Daily Star newspaper reported. Earlier, Chief Justice Hasan convened a full court meeting with all the judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court.
