Ratan Tata was born on 28 December 1937. He graduated from Cornell University in 1962. Later, he enrolled in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Ratan Tata's father Naval Tata was a successful businessman while Ratan Tata's mother Suni Tata was a housewife.

Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of one of the largest conglomerates, Tata Sons, passed away late on Wednesday night at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He was 86 years old. Ratan Tata was not only a global business leader but also a philanthropist helping every field to serve humanity.

After serving in several companies, in 1971 he was appointed Director-in-Charge of the National Radio and Electronics Company.

Later, in 1981, he was appointed as the Chairman of other holding companies of Tata Industries. He was a think tank and group strategist and was responsible for driving new initiatives in technology based businesses.

He served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 28 December 2012. During his tenure he headed Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Consultancy Services. Tata Global Beverages, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, Tata Teleservices and other group companies.
