Mogadishu: Twin bombings rocked Mogadishu and Somalia's central Shebelle region on Saturday, killing at least six people and injuring 10 others, according to a police report cited by Voice of America. The blasts took place at two different locations – one near the National Theater in Mogadishu, about a kilometer from the President's office, and the other at a livestock market in Johar city.

“An explosives-laden vehicle parked on the road near a restaurant in the crowded Hummer Wayne district went off. I could see the bodies of at least three people, two of them women,” witness Mohammad Haji Noor told VOA.

A bomb exploded at a livestock market in the town of Jawar in Somalia's central Shabelle region, killing one civilian and injuring three others, Jawar police commander Bashir Hassan said. The perpetrators of the attack were not immediately identified. However, the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, known for bombings and gun attacks in Mogadishu, is a suspected perpetrator, according to VOA. Meanwhile, during his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condemned Ethiopia's efforts to annex parts of Somalia and called for international support to defend his country's sovereignty.

The Prime Minister stressed that while global conflicts require attention, regional threats should not be ignored, particularly the threats posed by Ethiopia's recent actions, which he described as a violation of Somalia's territorial integrity. He condemned Ethiopia's attempts to annex parts of Somalia and requested international support to protect Somalia's sovereignty.

He further emphasized the urgent need for sustained funding for peacekeeping efforts, particularly in Somalia, where African Union troops have played a critical role in the fight against terrorism. The Prime Minister called on the international community to support innovative funding strategies to ensure the continued success of these missions.
