Shannen Doherty, an American actor best known for his role in the hit 1990s television drama “Beverly Hills, 90210,” has died at the age of 53. The actor passed away after living with cancer for many years. The news of her death was shared by People magazine.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, she lost her battle with cancer after years of fighting the disease,” the magazine quoted Doherty's publicist Leslie Sloan as saying. Doherty has openly shared her battle with breast cancer, revealing in 2015 that she was undergoing treatment for the disease. In 2023, she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor and it was revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones.

Shannon starred in movies like “Heathers.” However, the actor gained greater recognition after appearing on “90210” as Brenda, an honor roll student from Minnesota. People loved Brenda's triangle with Dylan McKay and Kelly Taylor. Later in 1998, Doherty was cast by “90210” creator Aaron Spelling in the supernatural series “Charmed” as Prue Halliwell, the oldest of three sisters with magical abilities. While the show was a hit, it was mired in chaos behind the scenes.

People magazine called Doherty the 'iconic bad girl' of the nineties, highlighting her reputation for partying, arriving late to set and feuding with actors and her bosses.

In 2023, during the podcast “Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty”, the actor said that she took full responsibility for her actions and admitted that her behavior would “get a little carried away”.

“I was raised to have an opinion, and to have my opinion valued, so I just kept pushing against that machine, against men who didn't want to hear my opinion,” she said on the podcast.

She later added, “I learned the simple art of diplomacy. I learned that there can be a better way of saying things.”
