Reports said that Mr. Ananda, his wife and their child managed to escape the attack safely, but the assailants took whatever valuables they could from the artist's house. The residence was razed by the mob, who carried away valuables including Ananda's vast collection of over 3,000 handcrafted musical instruments.
According to a close family member of Rahul Anand, speaking to The Daily Star, an English-language newspaper in Bangladesh, the attackers broke down the gate before destroying the residence. “They took everything from furniture and mirrors to valuables,” a source close to the family told the newspaper. He then set the entire house on fire with Rahul Da's instruments.
Many other musicians and artists have reported that Rahul Ananda, his wife Urmila Shukla and their son Tota managed to escape the violent attack safely. According to United News of Bangladesh, the artist and his family are now mentally destroyed, though they have not sustained any physical injuries.
Actors, musicians and their fans/admirers took to social media to express deep grief over the unfathomable demise of the beloved artiste and his family. Many have also questioned why the event took place despite the musician and his band declaring their support for the student movement's fight against the tyranny of the previous administration.
