New Delhi: Priyansh Arya etched his name in the history books as he hit his maiden century in the Delhi Premier League T20 to guide his team South Delhi Superstars to a memorable 88-run victory over Old Delhi 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday. Arya, the tournament's current top-scorer, scored an unbeaten 107 off 55 balls, which included nine fours and seven sixes, to take his team to 235/3 in 20 overs. In reply, Old Delhi managed to post 147 for 9 in 6 20 overs as the South Delhi superstar bowled in discipline.
Digwesh Rati was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with impressive figures of 3/13, while Vijan Panchal and impact player Anshuman Hooda took two wickets each. The South Delhi superstar defended the total by bowling strong on the momentum set by his batsmen. Kuldeep Yadav smashed Arpit Rana (29 off 19) for a hat-trick off the last ball of the powerplay, leaving Old Delhi at 43/1 for 6 runs.
Rathi then wreaked havoc as he took three wickets in two consecutive overs. He dismissed Keshav Dalal (15 off 10 balls) and sent skipper Lalit Yadav packing (0 off 1 ball) in the 12th over and dismissed Arnav Bugga (36 off 37 balls) in the 12th over, taking Old Delhi to 90/4 from 6.
Vansh Bedi showed resilience with 27 off 12 balls but was caught at third man by Sumit Mathur off Vision Panchal in the 14th over. Mayank Gusain (6 off 10 balls) and Sambhava Sharma (0 off 4 balls) were dismissed in the 15th and 16th overs respectively. By the final strategic break, Old Delhi 6 were out of the competition, 123 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
Shivam Sharma (6 off 6) was dismissed by Dipanshu Gulia in the 18th over, while Ayush Singh Thakur was dismissed by Anshuman Hooda in the final over, as the South Delhi superstar registered a dominant victory. Asked to bat first, the South Delhi superstar got off to a good start as openers Sarthak Ray and Priyansh Arya took the team's total to 52 in the powerplay. Rey played aggressively, while Arya played more cautiously. The pair quickly took the team's score to 100.
However, Ray fell short of his half-century by just one run as he was caught off Shivam Sharma in the 12th over. In the same over, Arya completed his half century in 34 balls. Arya then partnered with Ayush Badoni and dominated the 6 bowlers of Old Delhi as they scored blistering runs.
By the 17th over, Badoni completed his half-century in just 18 balls and the team reached 184/1. He was dismissed in the next over, but the in-form Arya continued to pile on big scores. He reached the team's 200-run mark in the 18th over with Tejashwi Dahiya.
Arya completed his century in just 53 balls in the last over. Dahiya contributed a quick 8-ball 18 before falling in the final over, while Arya's free-flowing strokes helped the South Delhi superstar surpass his team's total a day earlier. For Old Delhi 6, Prince Yadav took two wickets and conceded 41 runs in four overs.
