India's tennis pair Rohan Bopanna-Sreeram Balaji and singles player Sumit Nagal take on French opponents in their Paris Olympics 2024 first round matches.
Paris: India's tennis duo Rohan Bopanna-Sreeram Balaji and singles player Sumit Nagal will take on French opponents in their first round matches at the Paris Olympics 2024.
According to Olympics.com, world number four doubles player Bopanna and 65th-ranked N Sriram Balaji face Fabian Reboll and Edward Roger-Vasselin in the first round.
Roger-Vasselin is ranked 11th in the ATP rankings for doubles while Reboul is ranked 34th. Both pairs are unseeded for the Paris 2024 men's doubles tournament.
Indian tennis players will have their work cut out for them in the opening round with the winner of Daniil Medvedev-Roman Safiulin (Neutral Athlete) and second seeds Kevin Kravietz-Tim Putz (Germany) in the opening round. Second round.
World No. 80 Sumit Nagal will take on No. 68 Corentin Maute in the opener. Nagel will face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff (world no. 34) or Australia's Alex de Minaur (world no. 6) for a place in the second round.
The 44-year-old Bopanna, who made his Olympic debut in London 2012, will be returning to compete in his third Summer Games.

At Rio 2016, Bopanna and Sania Mirza missed out on a historic mixed doubles podium finish after losing the bronze medal match. Bopanna and Leander Paes, India's only Olympic medalists in tennis, paired up for men's doubles in Rio but lost in the opening round. Bopanna could not qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
On the other hand, Sumit Nagal became the first Indian in over 25 years to win a singles match at the Olympics at Tokyo 2020 after defeating Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin in the opening round, a release said.
However, his stay was cut short after he lost to world number two Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the second round.
34-year-old N Sriram Balaji, whom Bopanna chose as his partner for the Paris Olympics, will make his debut at the Summer Games.
The men's singles event at Paris 2024 will see 64 players compete for medals, while the men's doubles event will feature 32 teams. All matches will be played on clay courts at Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4.
The Paris Olympics will begin on Friday.
