New Delhi: Ahead of the Paris Paralympics, India's star para-badminton player Sukant Kadam has requested France to approve the visa requests of his elder brother and uncle after the French Consulate General in Mumbai rejected them.
Kadam mentioned that his acquaintances' visa requests were rejected despite having all the necessary documents. He highlighted that the support of family members is important for the athletes while representing the country in the summit competition.
“Heartbreaking news: My elder brother and uncle's visa has been rejected by @FranceBombay, they have confirmed tickets for a pre-booked event and this rejection is a big blow to their dreams. I kindly request the consulate to reconsider, as their sole purpose is to support me in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games! @FranceinIndia, @MEAIndia, @Media_SAI #FamilySupport #VisaHelp @mansukhmandviya,” read Kadam's post on X, formerly Twitter.
Sukanth has consistently performed well and won medals for the country. He won a bronze medal in the 2023 Para-Asian Games. His smooth running on the court earned him the number one spot in the Paralympics.
Reacting to Kadam's plea, para-badminton player Mansi Joshi replied to the post and echoed the former's sentiments.
“For any athlete, their support system is very important during their biggest sports. Hope @FranceinIndia will look into this and grant them the necessary visas for their journey,” Joshi wrote on X.
“Thank you @joshimanasi11 he dreamed of living in Paris and always supported all para athletes. I hope @FranceBombay will reconsider their decision,” Kadam replied.
The Paralympic Games will be held in Paris from August 28 to September 8.
