New Delhi: After back-to-back defeats, Purani Delhi 6 cruised to a seven-wicket victory over West Delhi Lions in their third match of the Adani Delhi Premier League T20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, August 21.
Old Delhi 6 won the toss and elected to bowl first and their decision paid off as they restricted West Delhi Lions to 141/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Laxman took 3/41 with an impressive spell, while Ayush Singh Thakur provided crucial support with figures of 2/27. West Delhi Lions struggled from the start, losing early wickets and never fully recovered.
West Delhi Lions' batting woes started immediately after Lalit Yadav dismissed opener Ankit Kumar for a wicket in the first over. Soon after, Anmol Sharma (1) was bowled by Ayush Singh Thakur and West Delhi Lions were 7/3 in just 2.2 overs. Captains Hrithik Shokin and Dev Lakra tried to steady the ship by contributing 28 and 26 runs respectively. However, late contributions from Ekansh (34 off 14 balls) and Tishant Dabla (23 off 9 balls) helped West Delhi Lions reach a modest total of 141/9.
Old Delhi's chase of 6 started aggressively, with opener Arpit Rana hitting an unbeaten 56 off 43 balls. Despite two quick wickets in the middle overs with Sanat Sangwan (22 off 25 balls) and Lalit Yadav (7 off 9 balls), Rana's consistent run chase continued. With him, Vansh Bedi's 18-ball 30 saw Old Delhi 6 comfortably cross the line in 17.1 overs.
Purani Dilli 6 started with a bang in the Powerplay, reaching 56/1 in the first six overs. Although Manjeet was dismissed early, Rana and Bedi finished the job with ease as they secured the team's first win of the season.
The West Delhi Lions bowlers struggled to maintain the pressure, with Hasan Mahmood's 2/33 being the only notable contribution. Despite initial success, their efforts could not prevent a determined pursuit of Old Delhi 6.
The win is a significant boost for Old Delhi 6, who had lost their opening two games. Their bowling attack showed resilience and Rana's match-winning knock came at a crucial moment, helping them bounce back in style.
