New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the final results of the controversial NEET-UG medical entrance exam, with 17 candidates sharing the all-India rank 1, down from 61 in the revised results, while thousands of other candidates saw significant changes in their scores and rankings. According to the NTA NEET UG Revised Result PDF, the number of qualified candidates and the cut off has also reduced significantly.

NTA has provided All India Rank to the candidates and Admission Officers will prepare merit list based on All India Rank for MBBS/BDS seats falling under their jurisdiction. When candidates apply in their state they will mention their category as per state category list. State counseling authorities will prepare their merit list accordingly. Same goes for domicile.

The “revised” results were announced three days after the Supreme Court dismissed several pleas seeking re-examination of NEET-UG 2024 due to alleged paper leaks and other malpractices. However, the Supreme Court directed the NTA to revise the merit list due to a controversial physics question with two possible answers. A three-member expert committee constituted by the Supreme Court had recommended a suitable option.

This led to a comprehensive revision of NEET ranks and scores for all 2.3 million students. As a result, the marks of at least 420,000 students, including 44 out of 61 students who scored a perfect score of 720, dropped by five marks, as the court canceled the disputed marks awarded to them for the physics question. Currently, it is not immediately clear what exactly will affect their rankings. This time, seventeen candidates secured exactly 720 marks and were declared toppers, followed by six candidates who secured 77 marks with 716 and 715 marks, forming the group of top 100 candidates.

The National Testing Agency conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (UG) for more than 24 lakh candidates at 4750 different centers in 571 cities across the country including 14 cities outside India on 5 May 2024 from 02:00 PM to 05:20 PM. National Eligibility Cum Entrance Examination (Under Graduate) was re-examined on June 23 for 1563 candidates who lost time during the originally scheduled examination on May 5, 2024.

The number of candidates sharing the top rank rose to 61 after the NTA announced the revised results on July 1, withdrawing the grace marks given to six candidates to make up for the time loss of some centres. On Friday, the NTA announced the “revised results”, along with the reduction in the number of toppers, the “revised” results of NEET UG also reduced the eligibility cutoff and the number of qualified candidates.

When the original results were declared on June 4, 44 of the 67 candidates, who were earlier declared toppers, got full marks because of the marks awarded for that particular physics question.

The total number of eligible candidates is 1,315,853, which is 415 less than the previous figures. However, there has been an increase in the number of eligible candidates in 15 states and union territories, including Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Though the number of eligibles has decreased marginally, with over 1.65 lakh candidates, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number, followed by Maharashtra (1.42 lakh) and Rajasthan (1.21 lakh). The other two states with more than 85,000 eligibility are Karnataka (88,887) and Kerala (86,713). The revision of results also brought down the eligibility cutoff – the new cutoff range for unreserved and economically weaker sections is 720-162, down from 164, while for OBC, SC, ST it is 161-127. Category-wise the number of eligibles for Unreserved, EWS and OBCs decreased, while for SCs and STs it increased.
