SC dismissed the plea seeking cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 examination and re-examination

The SC on Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking cancellation and re-testing of the controversial NEET-UG 2024 examination over allegations of paper leaks and irregularities. The court held that there was no evidence on record to conclude that the examination was “disrupted” due to “systematic violation of sanctity”.

The SC asked the NTA to declare the recalculated results based on the correct answer to the Physics question reported by IIT-Delhi.

The SC accepted the IIT-Delhi report and NTA was accordingly asked to “re-tally” the results of NEET-UG with option no. 4 indicates the only correct answer to the question. Due to confusion over correct answer NTA awarded 4 marks to all candidates who marked both options as correct answer, resulting in 44 toppers.

“Initially, NTA showed the second option of the question with the answer key as the correct answer. However, after considering the statements, both options 2 and 4 were taken as correct answers. However, the director of IIT Delhi, who heads the three-member committee, has submitted a report saying that option 4 is correct. The NTA will recalculate the result based on the correct answer as per the IIT-Delhi report,” said Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud.
