Nobel Prize in Literature 2024: The Swedish Academy announced this year's Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday. The prestigious award was presented to South Korean writer Han Kang. She won the prize for what the Nobel committee described as “her intensely poetic prose that confronts historical trauma and exposes the fragility of human life”. Notably, this is the 117th time the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded. Last year, John Fosse was awarded “for his innovative plays and prose that give voice to the unknown”.
Since its inception in 1901 until 2023, a total of 120 notable individuals have received the prestigious award. Unique to this domain, no one has won the award more than once. Also, it is worth noting that this award was shared between two individuals only four times in its history – in 1904, 1917, 1966 and 1974.
