NEET PG 2024 will not be postponed, Supreme Court dismisses plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the NEET-PG examination scheduled for August 11, 2024. Accordingly, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-PG) 2024 will be conducted as per schedule. That is on 11 August 2024. A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud directed the registry to list the matter for hearing on Friday (August 9), after lawyer Anas Tanveer, representing the petitioners, mentioned the plea for urgent listing.

“How can we postpone such an ordeal. Sanjay Hegde, nowadays people just demand to postpone exams. It's not a perfect world. We are not academic experts. “In principle, we will not change the exam schedule. Two lakh students and four lakh parents will cry if the weekend is postponed. We cannot risk the careers of so many candidates. We do not know who is behind these petitions,” the bench said.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra said that this cannot jeopardize the career of five students worth two lakh students. Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, appearing for the petitioners, submitted that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination (Postgraduate) (NEET-PG) needs to be restructured as there is one exam in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The petition said that many candidates have been allotted cities which are extremely inconvenient for them to reach. It said the test cities were allotted on July 31 and specific centers will be announced on August 8.

This is a breaking news. Further details are awaited.
