A resident of Kolkata and a graduate of Jamia Millia Islamia, Zainab secured an overall rank of 107 in the 2014 UPSC Civil Services Examination. She scored 220 out of 275 marks in her personality test and scored a total of 731 marks in the written test. Since 2014, no candidate has matched Zainab's remarkable performance in the interview stage. In UPSC Civil Services Exam 2021, Ashutosh Kumar and Kiran PB both scored 206 marks in interview. Additionally, Apala Mishra, who secured the ninth position in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020, scored 215 marks in her interview. In UPSC Civil Services Exam 2018, IAS Srishti Jayant Deshmukh scored 173 marks in personality test.
Saeed hails from Chitpur, Kolkata. She cleared the UPSC exam in the third attempt. Interestingly, she failed to clear the preliminary exam in the first two attempts. During the interview, she mentioned that one of the questions she was asked was about her preference between Kolkata and Delhi.
