According to the recently released Hurun India Rich List 2024, which ranks the richest people in the country and highlights city-wise billionaires, Rajinder Gupta has emerged as Ludhiana's richest person. He is the founder and chairman of Trident Limited, the flagship company of the Trident Group, which has grown into a leading enterprise worth over one billion dollars. Interestingly, Gupta is one of only two billionaires from Ludhiana, highlighting the remarkable impact of his entrepreneurial journey.

Who is Rajinder Gupta?

Rajinder Gupta's journey to success is a testament to resilience and determination, especially considering his low-income background. He faced many challenges from his childhood, dropping out of school at the age of 14 in the ninth grade due to financial difficulties. However, his fortunes began to change in the 1980s when he took advantage of opportunities that allowed him to build a remarkable career.

Starting out as an amateur, Gupta earned Rs 30 a day making cement pipes and candles. His spirit led him to establish Abhishek Industries in 1985, a fertilizer manufacturer that marked the beginning of his success. In 1991, he further expanded his business by partnering with another company to start a spinning mill. In 1996, Gupta took his company to Chandigarh. Trident Group now has factories in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

While Trident is widely known for its home textiles, paper and chemicals, it also manufactures bath and bed linen such as towels, duvets and fitted sheets.

Started as a humble cotton trading venture, costing Rs. 16,000 crores. Trident's growth has become a case study at the Punjab Business School.

Besides chairing the corporate advisory board of Trident Limited, Gupta heads the Ludhiana-based multinational conglomerate Trident Group. His contribution to business and industry has earned him significant recognition including the prestigious Padma Shri award from the President of India in 2007.

Gupta, 64, stepped down from Trident's board in 2022 due to personal reasons.

Gupta continues to play an active role in academia and industry, recently being appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Punjab Engineering College. He also serves on FICCI's Advisory Council for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, representing trade and commerce on the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion Board. His leadership also extended to sports as the President of the Punjab Cricket Association from September 2017 to February 2023.

Rajinder Gupta Net Worth 2024

According to the latest Forbes data, Trident's founder is a billionaire with a net worth of USD 1.6 billion, up from USD 1.4 billion in 2023. Gupta's wealth, however, has come down from USD 2.6 billion in 2022.
