Malayalam actor Baburaj has been accused of sexual harassment by a junior artiste. These allegations have come to light
The recent Hema committee report has set the Malayalam film industry, Mollywood on fire. Fresh allegations of sexual harassment have surfaced against famous Malayalam actor and producer Baburaj. A junior artiste, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed that the actor invited her to his home in exchange for the role.
“When I reached his house, only Baburaj and his assistant were there. He gave me a room to rest, however, after a while he knocked on the door. When I opened the door, he entered the room, closed the door, used some abusive language and assaulted me and sexually abused me. I didn't complain to anyone then because he is a famous actor and I didn't have anyone's support,” the woman told News18.
Report of the HEMA Committee
A Justice Hema Committee report set up by the Kerala government after the 2017 actress rape case revealed incidents of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, calling for action against the culprits.
Shaken by the Justice K Hema committee's explosive findings of harassment and abuse of women professionals, the Malayalam film industry on Sunday witnessed two high-profile resignations related to the issues.
Director Ranjith quit as president of state-run film academy Kerala Chalachitra Akademi and actor Siddiqui resigned as general secretary of AMMA (Malayalam Movie Artistes Association).
Despite political pressure building against Ranjith, actor Siddiqui resigned from AMMA.
