Security beefed up on Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya: BSF
Security has been beefed up along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya to check illegal migration in view of the ongoing unrest in the neighboring country, a BSF official said on Monday. BSF's Meghalaya Frontier Inspector General (IG) Harbaksh Singh Dhillon said the exercise, called 'Ops Alert', is meant to ensure effective border dominance and management.
“So far, BSF has admitted 574 Indian students, 435 Nepalese students and eight students from Bhutan through the Daki Integrated Check Post (ICP) in East Khasi Hills district,” he said.
“Additionally, 18 students from Kilapara ICP in West Garo Hills district took admission today,” he added.
Dhillon said the BSF personnel have been directed to provide all possible assistance to the border students by providing them with drinking water, food and medical aid, besides helping them to go home.
