Kamala Harris Reacts to Iran After Missile Attacks on Israel; 'Dangerous Powers in the Middle East'
She supports President Joe Biden's decision to shoot down missiles targeting Israel, the vice president said.
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has condemned Iran's missile attack on Israel, calling Tehran “a destabilizing, dangerous power in the Middle East.” “Today Iran fired approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel in a reckless attack. I unequivocally condemn this attack,” she said. She said her commitment to Israel was “unwavering” and warned that Iran was not a threat to Israel. “Iran is also a threat to American personnel in the region, American interests, and innocent civilians throughout the region suffering at the hands of Iran-based and supported terrorist proxies,” she says.
“We are still assessing the impact but preliminary indications are that Israel, with our help, was able to defeat the attack,” she says.
She supports President Joe Biden's decision to shoot down missiles targeting Israel, the vice president said. “I am clear. Iran is an unstable, dangerous power in the Middle East, and today's attack on Israel demonstrates that fact. Earlier today, I was in the situation room with President Biden and our national security team as we monitored the attack in real time, ensuring that the protection of US personnel in the region was paramount. I fully support the order for the US military to shoot down Iranian missiles targeting Israel, as we did in April… I always assure that Israel has the ability to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist militias. My commitment to Israel's security is unwavering,” she said.
She further noted that Iran poses a threat to American personnel and citizens in the region. “To be clear, Iran is a threat not only to Israel, but also to American personnel, interests, and innocent citizens throughout the region who suffer at the hands of Iran-based and Iran-backed terrorist proxies. We will never hesitate to take any action necessary to protect American forces and interests against Iran and its terrorist allies, and we will continue to work with our allies and partners to deter and hold Iran's aggressive behavior to account,” she said.
Harris also stressed the US military's active support for Israel. “At my direction, the United States military actively supported the defense of Israel. We are still assessing the impact, but based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been withdrawn and ineffective. This is a testament to Israel's military capabilities,” she said.
She also noted the ongoing dialogue between American security personnel and Israeli officials.
