John J. Hopfield, Jeffrey E. Hinton received the Nobel Prize in Physics for this amazing discovery.
Physicist John J. Hopfield and Jeffrey E. Hinton would be awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize for his contributions to physics.
John J. Hopfield and Jeffrey E. Hinton will be awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize for his contributions to physics, the Royal Swedish Academy in Stockholm, Sweden announced on Tuesday. According to the Academy's announcement, the two physicists used physics to develop methods that underlie advances in machine learning,
“The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Jeffrey E. The decision to award Hinton “for fundamental discoveries and discoveries enabling machine learning with artificial neural networks,” the Nobel Prize wrote on its official X. handle
Using physics tools, Geoffrey Hinton invented a method that automatically detects properties in data, allowing AI-based systems to recognize specific elements in images.
On the other hand, according to the announcement, John Hopfield created an associative memory that could store and reconstruct images and other patterns in data.
Nobel Prize in Physics
The Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded for exemplary work in the field of physics. In 2023, the prize was awarded to three scientists who obtained the first split-second glimpse of a spinning electron.
The discovery by three Nobel laureates – Anne L'Huillier, Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krause, could help in the design and improvement of electronics besides helping diagnose various diseases in the near future.
The discovery is also important in nano-technology, which is considered to be the next big leap.
Apart from publicity, the Nobel Prize in Physics is a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kroner (about ₹ 8.3 crore), funded by the bequest of its creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel.
