Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi) was inaugurated on Monday, 02 September 2024 by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed the first batch of graduating students, marking a significant milestone in international engineering education under the prestigious IIT brand. According to an official press release of the Indian Embassy, ​​the inaugural batch of 52 students will pursue B.Tech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering, as well as Power Engineering.

The establishment of an IIT campus in the UAE was a key feature of the vision document, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in February 2022, outlining a roadmap for expanding the India-UAE partnership through new collaborations. activity

Undergraduate students were selected through the prestigious JEE Advanced exam and the newly designed Common Entrance Entrance Test (CAET) designed for international applicants. The inaugural undergraduate class has a diverse group of Indian, Emirati and international students. Before undergraduate programs, IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi launched its first Master of Technology (M.Tech) program in Energy Transition and Sustainability in January 2024.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled was accompanied by Indian Ambassador to UAE Sanjay Sudhir, Director of IIT Delhi Prof. Dr. Rangan Banerjee and Emirati dignitaries.

In a significant part of the event, IIT Delhi signed MoUs of strategic importance with several higher education and research institutes in Abu Dhabi, including Mohammed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Khalifa University, Zayed University, Abu Dhabi. and Sorbonne University-Abu Dhabi.

These collaborations aim to enhance Abu Dhabi's academic, research and innovation ecosystem, foster cutting-edge research and partnerships that support the local start-up ecosystem.
