India's Harmanpreet Kaur has overtaken Meg Lanning to become the second highest run-scorer in women's T20I history, while Smriti Mandhana can also climb the rankings during the Asia Cup semi-final against Bangladesh.
Dambulla: India women's captain Harmanpreet Kaur has overtaken Meg Lanning to become the second highest run-scorer in women's T20I history, while opener Smriti Mandhana can also go one better than the former Australia captain when the Asia Cup semi-finals begin on Friday.
Thirty-five-year-old Harmanpreet scored 66 runs against UAE earlier in the tournament and now has a total of 3415 T20I runs to her name, surpassing Lanning's 3405 runs.
Mandhana has 3378 T20I runs to her name and could become the third highest run-scorer in women's T20I history with her big score against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup semi-final.
New Zealand veteran Suzy Bates is the leading run-getter in women's T20I cricket history with 4348 runs and the 36-year-old recently added a team-best 117 runs during the five-match T20I series against England.
But Harmanpreet and Mandhana have appeared to be in good touch of late and could make further inroads on the Kiwis with a good innings in the Asia Cup, the release said.
The Women in Blue will face Bangladesh Women in the first semi-final of the tournament on Friday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The second semi-final of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women at the same venue and on the same evening.
