New Delhi: Tech giant Google on Thursday announced the rollout of its 'AI Overviews' feature to six new countries, including India.

In India, the company is rolling out 'AI Overviews' in English and Hindi and is also introducing popular country-first features that were well-received during research lab experiments.

“It will help you easily switch between English and Hindi results with a language toggle button and listen to responses with text-to-speech by tapping the 'Listen' button,” the company said in a blog post.

The six new countries are India, the United Kingdom, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil, with local language support in each country.

Hema Budaraju, Senior Director, Product Management, Discovery, as part of testing, said, “We have seen that Indian users listen to AI observation responses more often than other countries”.

“With a new right-hand link display for AI overviews on desktop, we're introducing more ways to check relevant websites while you're searching — also accessible on mobile by tapping the site icon in the top right,” Budaraju noted.

People looking for help with complex topics are more engaged and coming back for AI overviews. Google found that people prefer to use search with AI overview and find their search results more useful.

Budaraju said, “As we develop the search experience with AI Overviews, we focus on helping people get information and perspectives from a variety of sources.

And when people click on search results pages with an AI overview, these clicks are of higher quality for the website — meaning users are more likely to spend more time on the site they visit.

“Our continued focus on improving and enhancing search allows us to send more qualified traffic to the web,” Google said.

The company is testing links to relevant web pages directly within the text of AI overviews (in addition to the key links it already displays), making it easier for people to click through and visit the sites they're interested in.
