French President Emmanuel Macron backs India to host 2036 Olympics, 'I believe in your country'
India has already earmarked huge sums to build sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron has extended his support to India to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year officially announced his intention to bid for the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics as 'the dream of 1.4 billion countrymen'. The central government and the state government of Gujarat have earmarked Rs 6000 crore for building sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, which will prepare the twin cities to host the world's biggest sporting event.
Macron not only backed India's bid to host the Games but also issued a warning. “First of all, I strongly believe in your country and the future of your country and what you can create and your ability to organize events like this,” the French president told Geo Cinema.
“I think it's a tough competition. Firstly, we should not underestimate the fact and I remember seven years ago when I went to Lausanne, we competed with Los Angeles. And we found this deal and in the end, it was and still is a great collaboration. So the competition is a great preparation,” he added.
