England lost captain Ben Stokes ahead of the Sri Lanka Test with a torn hamstring
Ollie Pope will lead England in all the three Tests starting August 21 against Sri Lanka.
London: England cricket captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday due to a torn hamstring he suffered in a domestic match at the weekend. Stokes, 33, sustained the injury while batting against the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday and was later seen on crutches.
Stokes will miss all three Tests in England's series against Sri Lanka starting August 21. “The all-rounder is aiming to return for England's winter Test tour of Pakistan,” England said in a statement. The first Test against Pakistan will be held in Multan on October 7. England vice-captain Ollie Pope will lead the side in Stokes' absence against Sri Lanka.
