New Delhi: East Delhi Riders defeated South Delhi Superstars by seven wickets in the ongoing Adani Delhi Premier League T20 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. A strong start from the openers and a solid partnership in the order saw them reach a challenging target of 192 with 13 balls to spare.
East Delhi Raiders began their chase as openers Anuj Rawat and Sujal Singh launched an aggressive attack on South Delhi's superstar bowlers. The pair found boundaries with ease and took their team to 86/0 by the end of the Powerplay. Rawat's promising innings came to an end when Ayush Badoni dismissed him for 34, but Sujal Singh brought up his half-century in just 19 balls. His innings of 50 runs included seven fours and three sixes and was eventually dismissed by Digvesh Tripathi.
Despite losing both the openers, East Delhi Raiders remained in control. Skipper Himmat Singh contributed 26 runs and then Hardik Sharma (38 off 24 balls) and Samarth Seth (24 off 20 balls) put on a crucial partnership of 50 off 34 balls. This stand saw East Delhi Riders comfortably reach their target of 193/3 with 13 balls to spare.
Earlier, the South Delhi superstar managed to score 191 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs after being put in to bat by East Delhi Riders. Their innings got off to a shaky start when Sarthak Ray was dismissed by Simarjit Singh for just two runs. However, captain Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya steadied the ship with a 36-ball 67-run partnership. Badoni's 20-ball 32, with two fours and three sixes, accelerated the pace at the top of the order, while Priyansh continued his good form with a 30-ball half-century.
The Raiders bounced back in the middle overs as Mayank Rawat dismissed Badoni, then got the wicket of Priyansh soon after his milestone. Harsh Tyagi's sharp bowling coupled with Rawat's double hit swung the game in East Delhi's favour. From a solid score of 108/3, the South Delhi superstars floundered in the latter stages, losing wickets at regular intervals and struggling to keep up the scoreboard.
Late contributions from Dhruv Singh and Sumit Mathur added some much-needed runs, but the damage was already done as South Delhi ended their innings on 191/7. For the Raiders, Mayank Rawat and Harsh Tyagi excelled with the ball, taking two wickets each. Simarjeet Singh and Himanshu Chauhan also took a wicket each to ensure a comprehensive performance for the Raiders.
With this win, East Delhi Riders registered their first win of the season and will look to build on the momentum as they prepare for their next match against Central Delhi Kings on Friday.
