Dhaka: The death toll from flash floods in parts of Bangladesh, mainly caused by runoff, has risen to 67, including six women and 18 children, the country's disaster response agency said on Monday.

According to the new toll released by the National Disaster Response Coordination Center under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, three southeastern districts of the country – Feni, Comilla and Noakhali – are the most affected districts, with 54 deaths so far. Weeks of unprecedented flooding.

About 6 million people have been affected by the floodwaters that hit 11 of the country's 64 districts, causing massive loss of life, property and standing crops, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the latest report, 605,767 people are still trapped in the floodwaters in the southeastern and northeastern districts. However, the flood situation is now reported to be improving in several southeastern districts as floodwaters recede from the affected areas.

Authorities have dispatched disaster response teams to carry out rescue operations, distribute relief materials and monitor centers where flood victims have taken shelter.
