There is a restriction on the appointment of guest professors in other colleges of the university.

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) allows appointment of guest professors, which is limited to other colleges of the university. This is a big step which will probably give a big relief to the 12 DU colleges which are aided by the Delhi government.

Delhi University has allowed appointment of guest professors in these 12 colleges which is prohibited in other colleges of the university.

“In view of the “abnormal delay” in appointing teaching staff to colleges, the DU administration said its earlier directives will not apply to these colleges in the larger interest of students.”

“As twelve 100 per cent aided government colleges of Delhi are experiencing inordinate delay in appointment of teachers due to one reason or the other, the University has sent instructions to appoint guest professors only on leave vacancies. Means maternity leave, childcare leave, study leave, sabbatical leave, medical leave and extraordinary leave shall not be applied to the colleges till further instructions in the wider interest of the students,” read the order issued by the Deputy Registrar on August 13 (Colleges).

Earlier, on August 8, Delhi University had issued a directive directing the heads of its colleges and departments to appoint guest professors only if there are vacancies due to any teaching staff on leave.
