New Delhi: A new study reveals which addictions Americans are seeking the most help for.

Origins Recovery, a leading addiction and mental health treatment facility in the USA, analyzed Google search data related to various vices in the US, such as porn, gambling and alcohol, to see which people are struggling the most.

A total of 58 common addictions were run through Google Keyword Planner, including search term changes, “[addictive activity] treatment”, “[addictive activity] Recovery”, and “Help [addictive activity] addiction”.

The following is a list of the top 10 addictions in America

  1. In first place is porn, with an average of 30,749 searches per month from people seeking treatment or help managing addiction. “Porn addiction recovery” was found to be the most Googled term related to the issue, with an average of 14,849 searches per month nationwide, while “porn addiction therapy” came in second, with 6,965 average monthly searches.
  2. Alcohol ranks second with an average of 9,057 searches per month nationwide. “Alcohol addiction treatment” was found to be the most commonly searched phrase related to alcohol addiction, with an average of 2,748 monthly searches nationwide.
  3. Gambling ranks third on the list, with an average of 6,128 searches per month across the country from people seeking help for the problem. The phrase “betting addiction treatment” was the most searched for gambling addiction with an average of 2,644 searches per month nationwide.
  4. Opioids ranked fourth, with an average of 5,761 monthly searches nationwide by people seeking help for the problem. “Opiate addiction therapy” was the top-searched phrase related to this particular addiction, accounting for 2,082 monthly average searches nationwide.
  5. Food takes fifth place, with an average of 4,155 monthly searches nationwide related to treatment and help on this topic. “Food addiction therapy” was the most searched term related to food addiction, accounting for 1,380 total average monthly searches.
  6. Marijuana ranks sixth with 3,024 average monthly searches
  7. Video games ranked seventh, with an average of 2,734 searches per month from people seeking help with this problem.
  8. In eighth place is shopping, which receives an average of 2,104 monthly searches for helping and treating shopping addictions.
  9. Social media is at the ninth position in this list. There are an average of 1,488 searches per month across the country for help with various social media addictions.
  10. Benzodiazepines ranked tenth on the list after looking at 1,430 monthly searches nationwide for help with this problem.

Interestingly, in all 50 states, porn was found to be the number one addiction for which Americans seek help, with alcohol being the second most sought-after addiction in all but five states.
