Muscat: In a remarkable move in the ocean near Oman, the Indian Navy's warship INS Teg has rescued 9 sailors, including 8 Indians and 1 Sri Lankan national, from a Comoros-flagged oil tanker that capsized on July 15. There were a total of 8 people in the ship. 13 Indians on board. Indian naval assets and Omani agencies are still conducting search and rescue operations in the area.

Incidentally, the MV overturned about 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madraka, Oman.

Indian Navy helps Oman to find missing sailors

Indian Navy warship INS Teg along with maritime surveillance aircraft P-8I along with Omani ships and crew were deployed for search and rescue mission after the Comoros-flagged ship capsized with 13 Indians on board.

The Indian warship was taking an operational turn in the area directed for the search and rescue mission on July 15. The warship discovered the capping oil tanker on the morning of 16 July, the Prestige Falcon, an oil tanker that had capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madraka. It is near the Omani port of Duqm.

“The Comoros-flagged oil tanker overturned 25 NM southeast of Ras Madraka,” the Maritime Safety Center said in a post on X. SAR operations were initiated with the concerned authorities. #MaritimeSecurityCenter”

The MV crashed about 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madraqa, Oman on 15 July 24 and search and rescue efforts were underway in coordination with Omani authorities on the morning of 16 July 24. MV had a total of 16 employees. Including 13 Indians and 03 Sri Lankans. Search and rescue operations by Indian and Omani assets are being carried out in challenging weather conditions as the area experiences rough seas and strong winds. The Indian Navy's long-range maritime search aircraft P8I is also assisting in the search for survivors.

The ship was bound for the Yemeni port city of Aden, according to the shipping website marinetraffic.com, which said it departed from the port of Hamriya in Dubai. Duqm Port is a major hub for Oman's major oil and gas mining projects.
