The Kamala Harris campaign claims it has been targeted by foreign hackers
Kamala Harris' run for the Democratic presidential endorsement has been reported in a series of recent cyber attacks, suspected of being foreign infiltrators.
Washington: As the United States presidential election approaches, new twists and turns are emerging every day. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign claimed on Tuesday that it had been targeted by foreign hackers. Notably, the claim comes days after Donald Trump's campaign said it had been hacked by Iran.
“In July, campaign legal and security teams were notified by the FBI that we had been targeted by a foreign actor's influence operation.” We have robust cyber security measures in place and are not aware of any security breaches of our systems as a result of those efforts,” AFP quoted a Harris campaign official as saying.
However, the Harris campaign did not warn which foreign power was targeted and attacked but noted that it was in contact with law enforcement agencies.
It is worth noting that, on Monday, the US State Department warned Iran about election interference after presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign announcement that it had been hacked.
The Trump team indicated this Saturday that the source behind the leaked documents, which include research used in the evaluation of potential running mate J.D. Vance, may have been Iran. The campaign has advised media houses to refrain from publishing these documents, suggesting that doing so could inadvertently help America's enemies.
During a press briefing back in 2016, Trump's narrative was significantly different than it is now. He expressed his hope for Russia to find Clinton's hidden emails, a desire that would encourage possible cyberattacks against her opposition. The U.S. intelligence community concluded that Russia did indeed interfere in the 2016 election, tipping the scales in Trump's favor — an assertion it strongly denies.
