'Salman Khan was shy, he didn't talk much when he was young', remembers Javed Akhtar
At the trailer launch of the documentary series 'Angry Young Men' in Mumbai, Javed Akhtar recalled the childhood days of Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan.
During the premiere of the trailer of the new documentaries Angry young menJaved Akhtar and Salim Khan candidly shared interesting stories from Salman and Arbaaz's childhood. The lyricist added that though Salman is known as a 'dashing hero' in films, he was the least talkative and the most introverted as a child.

Javed Akhtar says, 'Salman Khan was a shy boy
Salman Khan is loved by his fans not only for his acting prowess but also for his dashing looks. The veteran songstress revealed that he has been handsome since childhood. “Our children said such wonderful things about us today. But they were too young to remember much. we do When I first met Salim Saheb, Salman was not even a year old. It was 1965. Abhi so beautiful lag rahe hine, ye koi abhi ki baat nahi hai, ye bachpan se hi khubsurat (He looks very handsome now, but he has been beautiful since childhood. He was a very handsome boy).”
He recalled seeing a portrait of Khan in his father Salim Khan's living room. The eminent poet revealed that all the children of Salim Khan were born after friendship. “Today Salman is that man and this dashing hero but he was a very shy and quiet boy who spoke very little. The mischievous child was Arbaaz. He was a regular seducer. He used to befriend Salimsaheb's friends and develop a special relationship with them. Arbaaz doesn't remember things he did as a child. When people mingled with him, he would think Yeh to Bada Kamal Ka Bacha Hai..”
He also said about Arbaaz's self-love, “Ye kanhi karta tha, a 6 year old child apni kangi kar raha hai main aisa dekha nahi kabhi to self-prem inka bahut kamal ka tha (He used to comb his hair. I've never seen a 6-year-old comb his hair. So his self-love is really big)”
About Javed Akhtar, Salim Khan's 'Angry Young Men'
The video begins with Salman saying, “This is the first one where I'm scared.” “The only reason I know my father wrote these films is because he was my father,” Javed Akhtar's filmmaker-actor son Farhan Akhtar points out later in the video.
Karan highlighted how Salim-Javed were the highest paid actors in the film industry and were paid more than the rulers of the time. Karan said, “Can you imagine a writer today saying, 'I want a crore more than Salman Khan, that was Salim-Javed's strength'. The video ends with megastar Amitabh Bachchan saying, “Being them together was a different story.”
The title of the documentary Angry Young Men refers to the angsty young hero-type duo created in the 70s. Salim-Javed played an important role in Big B's stardom. Talking about these documentaries, Salim said, “I started my career in front of the camera but I realized that my real strength is in storytelling. That's when I decided to focus on what came naturally to me – writing. Then I met Javed who shared the same passion for writing and we did some fantastic work together, which I am very proud of. We've had great runs and great success, challenging industry norms along the way. It feels wonderful that our journey is being documented for future generations and I hope it inspires them to do their best without being confined to society's prescribed roles.”
'Angry Young Men' will premiere in India on August 20 on Prime Video. Namrata Rao has directed this project.
