The tabla participant and music composer picked up the coveted award in ‘Greatest International Music Efficiency’ class for ‘Pashto’. In his acceptance speech for ‘Pashto’ on behalf of Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia- his fellow musicians, the 72-year-old Mumbai-born percussionist stated, “Because of the Academy, due to all these nice musicians for giving us lovely music…our deepest due to our households…with out them, we’re nothing… with out love, with out music, with out concord, we’re nothing.”

‘As We Communicate’, by which the tabla maverick has collaborated with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Rakesh Chaurasia, received the Grammy for the ‘Greatest Modern Instrumental Album’ class.
Hussain, who can also be a part of the Jazz group ‘Shakti’ together with Shankar Mahadevan, received ‘The Greatest International Music Album Award for its newest album, ‘This Second’.

The album ‘This Second’ options eight songs created by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist). They had been nominated for the Grammys with different artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.
