Illegal hydrant found in Karachi, case registered against two
Two people have been charged with water theft after an illegal hydrant was found in Karachi.
Karachi: An illegal hydrant has been found in Pakistan's Karachi and two people have been found guilty of stealing water through it, depriving people of Baldia Town of clean water, ARY News reported. After receiving a complaint from the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, the police registered a case against the two persons.
The two accused, identified as Mushtaq and Amir, broke a 33-inch water supply line near the Northern Bypass and made a 2-inch hole to steal water.
The water situation in Baldia Town area of Karachi is still deteriorating due to the collected water being sold by water tankers, the FIR report stated.
This is not the first time that the people of Karachi are in trouble due to non-availability of drinking water.
Even as Eid-ul-Fitr approached in April, water scarcity remained a serious problem in Karachi, with no solution on the horizon. When Dawn in Pakistan reported on the situation, it highlighted the disruption of water supply in various parts of the city even during the festive season. Unfortunately, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation did not meet the demands of the required water supply during Ramadan, compounding the problem for the locals.
