A Hindu temple in Edmonton, Canada has been vandalized and graffiti painted on the walls. Following the incident, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Canada condemned it and urged the Canadian government to take action against the growing extremist ideology. “VHP Canada strongly condemns the Hinduphobic graffiti and vandalism of the BAPS temple in Edmonton,” the organization wrote in an X Post. “We call on all levels of government in Canada to act decisively against the growing extremist ideology fueling hatred against the peaceful Hindu community in our country,” it said.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Edmonton is not the first time Hindu places of worship across Canada have been targeted. Nepean Member of Parliament Chandra Arya expressed concern about the increasing incidents of hate violence targeting Hindu-Canadian communities. He said Hindu temples in Canada were increasingly being “vandalized”. “The BAPS Swaminarayan Temple, a Hindu temple in Edmonton, has been vandalized again. Over the years, Hindu temples in the Greater Toronto Area, British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada have been vandalized with hateful graffiti,” Arya said in a post on X.

Arya, a Liberal member of parliament known for his advocacy on multicultural issues, pointed to the impunity enjoyed by “Khalistani militants” in Canada. “I have always said that Khalistani militants seem to get away with their public rhetoric of hatred and violence. Again, I put that on the record. Hindu Canadians are legitimately concerned. As a broken record, I again appeal to Canadian law enforcement agencies to take this matter seriously before these rhetorics turn into physical action against Hindu Canadians,” he said.
