The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is all set to boost last-mile connectivity by introducing over 1,100 e-autos in its existing fleet of electric three-wheelers. Of the 2,299 e-auto licenses allotted by the transport department, 1,183 are already registered, operating from 40 DMRC stations equipped with charging points and designated parking areas. By the end of August, an additional 1,116 e-autos are expected to be registered, further improving accessibility for commuters.

These permits have been issued to authorized operators at metro stations in Chhatarpur, Dwarka, Rohini and North West Delhi. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar emphasized the importance of end-to-end connectivity for Delhi Metro commuters. He appreciated the recent initiative taken by the Delhi government to start a bus service aimed at increasing this connectivity. The concerted effort to expand transportation options reflects a commitment to improving the overall travel experience for residents and visitors to the capital city.

Talking about the e-auto service, Kumar said, while buses are large in size and not suitable for all metro stations, e-autos can be easily handled. “We are partnering with companies that will provide e-autos and operate them as per our requirements. They will run on our circuit to ensure last mile connectivity,” he told PTI.

In Delhi, the government has started testing Mohalla buses

Earlier, the Delhi government began a week-long trial run for the Mohalla bus project and launched two trial routes, taking a step towards implementing the flagship scheme announced last year to improve last-mile connectivity in the capital. These buses will run on two trial routes from Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase-3 and Majlis Park to Pradhan Enclave in Burari.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said the transport department will conduct a week-long trial and incorporate feedback for the expansion of the Mohalla Bus Project. “Such routes are being created for the first time. We are consulting with IITs and many other organizations working with big data to understand travel patterns and high frequency of origin-destination points using mobile data. Transport, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are studying the ground reality of the proposed routes,” he added.

The Delhi government is currently running 100 buses from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to enhance last-mile connectivity.
