Bank Holiday: All banks will be closed on Wednesday
Bank customers must take note of holidays. While all banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, the Reserve Bank (RBI) has announced additional state-specific holidays.
Bank Holiday 2024: All banks in Assam will remain closed tomorrow on the death anniversary of Shrimant Shankardev. A well-known social reformer, Srimanta Sankaradeva is a revered saint, poet and dramatist who played an important role in the spread of the Bhakti movement and Vaishnavism in Assam.
Bank holidays in India vary from state to state. Bank customers must take note of holidays. While all banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, the Reserve Bank (RBI) has announced additional state-specific holidays.
Here are the key dates:
September 7 (Saturday): Banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will remain closed on Ganesh Chaturthi.
September 14 (Saturday): Banks in Kerala and Jharkhand will be closed for Karma Puja and first Onam.
September 16 (Monday): Milad-un-Nabi (Prophet Mohammad's birthday) will be observed and banks will remain closed in several states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi.
September 17 (Tuesday): Indrajatra will be observed in Sikkim and Chhattisgarh, banks are closed in these states.
September 18 (Wednesday): Banks in Sikkim will remain closed for Pang-Labsol.
September 20 (Friday): Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar for Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi.
September 21 (Saturday): Shri Narayan Guru Samadhi Day. Banks in Kerala will remain closed.
September 23 (Monday): Banks in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed on the occasion of Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday.
September 28 (Saturday): Banks across the country will remain closed on the fourth Saturday.
RBI classifies bank holidays into three categories: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays and Banks Closing of Accounts.
